As wikipedia kindly puts it, Par Avion is…
Par Avion or “by air mail”— Also called ‘Airmail etiquette’ is a label used to indicate that a letter is to be sent by airmail. The term is derived from French étiquette “label, sticker” (cognate to stick), and also from English etiquette “rules of behavior”.
This particular Par Avion, however, is a collective term that refers to a series of illustrated novels, drawings, and a really, really thick book of world-crafting lore.
In other words, the Par Avion Project is a collection of stories - some long, some short, but all intersecting and intermingling with each other to form a narrative picture.
These stories tell of a group of people referred to as Couriers, postmen and women of all ages delivering letters, parcels, and other assorted objects to their customers in a world recovering from the folly and ambition of humanity’s forebears, many years on.
In this desolate world, humanity continues to persist in settlements built on mountain peaks, safe from the toxic fumes of the Cloud Sea that has enveloped much of the world below. These settlements are known as Sky-Trees, wind-proofed structures constructed in a bid to adapt to a shortage of arable land, clean water supplies and constant erratic weather conditions.
Under the employ of the Royal Postal Service, one of the last remaining fragments of the Old World, these Couriers perform deliveries from one Sky-Tree to another, inadvertently bringing about a semblance of consistency and security in an age where both of these things remain scarce commodities.
Seen by many as the hope, resilience and spirit of humanity, it is the job and calling of the Couriers to keep all of the Cloud Sea connected, and Par Avion chronicles the daily life of these Couriers - their struggles, hopes, dreams, nostalgia, and the occasional seasonal festival as they perform their duties and live their (often colourful) lives.
From the young, starry-eyed pilots of the Glider Express to the daredevil speedsters of the Penny Express, to the yodeling astrolongers of the Windsong Corps; and even the hardened veterans of the Tracker Corps - Par Avion is their story.
A story of communication, love, memories, nostalgia, mystery and perhaps just a little bit of the human condition - narrated in a world that has long since forgotten its name.
We regret to inform you that the Royal Postal Service currently has no available documentation and/or services on the delivery of “Butt Nuggets” at this time.
Should this service become available in the future, you will be informed via Glider Express posthaste.
